Ainsi le 20 septembre j’ai effectué ma sortie à la bibliothèque de Koho. Des élèves du CM2 sont venus dans l’après-midi pour se distraire un peu au lido mais certains ont préférés lire les livres. J’ai fait une petite observation en faisant une séance de sensibilisation sur l’importance de la lecture à ces élèves qui sont en classe examen. Ils doivent se mettre beaucoup au sérieux pour lire afin de se préparer pour leurs examens de fin d’année.
L’animateur de l’ABVBF et la gérante de la bibliothèque communautaire de Karaba ont effectué le mercredi 21 septembre 2022, une sortie à la mairie de Houndé. C’est suite à l’absence du PDS de la mairie de Houndé, que les deux collègues ont jugé nécessaire de rencontrer le secrétaire général (SG) de ladite commune. Les échanges avec le SG étaient basés sur les motivations des gérants des bibliothèques de la commune de Houndé. Au cours de cette rencontre, le SG a fait appel au comptable de la mairie en la personne de monsieur Boué Issa pour plus d’éclaircissement. Le SG fut un peu surpris du non prise en compte de la motivation des gérants dans le budget supplémentaire. Pour le comptable Boué Issa, c’est la commission qui avait demandé d’attendre d’abord ce côté motivation des gérants ; chose que le SG n’a pas beaucoup apprécié. Le SG a dit comme ils sont les nouveaux arrivants, ils auraient besoin de la convention afin de voir les faisabilités.
Le président de ABVBF , monsieur Sanou Dounko, a reçu, ce 29 septembre 2022, la visite de monsieur Nikiéma Ousséni. Monsieur Nikiéma est un écrivain conteur burkinabé. Il est venu présenter au président de ABVBF ses derniers livres pour enfants. Ces livres sont intitulés : Tibila et son rêve, Les aventures de Ayoula, et Les contes de Dunia (en spectacle). Après la présentation, les deux hommes ont échangé sur la promotion de la lecture au Burkina Faso. Lors des échanges, Monsieur Nikiéma a fait savoir que, désormais, il produisait ses livres à sa maison d’édition ici au Burkina. À ce sujet, le président de ABVBF lui a fait savoir que ABVBF était intéressé pour produire quelques livres photos. Chose que Ousséni a accepté. Avant de partir, le président a payé 3 copies des livres dont deux avec un CD.
Le 28 septembre 2022, le président de A.B.V.B.F. a eu des communications téléphoniques avec quelques gérants de bibliothèques appuyées. Il est ressorti de ses communication ce qui suit :
• À Niankorodougou, tout se passe bien. Avec la fin des travaux, les jeunes lecteurs ont repris la fréquentation de la bibliothèque et à lire. Les lecteurs qui fréquentent le plus la bibliothèque sont les élèves du primaire. Nombreux sont ceux qui viennent lire mais il y a certains qui viennent pour jouer aux jeu de Waré, puzzle et autres. Le bâtiment construit par la mairie pour servir de bibliothèque est achevée. Selon la gérante, le SG dit qu’ils sont à la recherche de partenaires pour renforcer le fonds documentaire. Elle dit avoir perçu ses frais de motivation normalement et qu’il y a eu une augmentation de dix mille francs CFA.
• À Rouko, le gérant dit qu’avec la rentrée scolaire est là, certains fans de la lecture ont repris le chemin de la bibliothèque. La situation pécuniaire n’a toujours pas changé mais il espère qu’avec la délégation spéciale les choses vont changer.
• À Kongoussi, le gérant a eu plus de 155 sorties de livres. Il a passé beaucoup de temps dans l’enregistrement des livres dans l’ordinateur chose qui n’est pas aussi facile. Ces deux jours, il reçoit moins de lecteurs parce que nombreux sont partis pour les concours de la fonction publique.
Dans le cadre de la promotion des bibliothèques et de la lecture au Burkina Faso, le président de Amis des Bibliothèques de Villages du Burkina Faso (A.B.V.B.F), Sanou Dounko, a effectué, du 8 au 11 septembre 2022, une mission de travail à Konkourona dans la commune de Lena, province du Houet. Arrivé dans la soirée du 8 septembre, il a été accueilli par le docteur Jules Millogo, président de Konkourona Alliance Foundation (KAFO). La journée du 9 septembre a été marquée par une rencontre entre le président de A.B.V.B.F., le président de FAFO, celui de M.S.N. (Mami Sira Nan) et le gérant de la bibliothèque communautaire dudit village. Après la rencontre, le président de A.B.V.B.F. et le gérant se sont rendu à la bibliothèque pour discuter de l’organisation de l’espace de la bibliothèque puis continuer l’enregistrement et le cachetage des livres. La journée du 10, quant à elle, a vu l’installation des ordinateurs, l’encadrement du gérant de la bibliothèque sur l’utilisation de l’imprimante. Le gérant a ainsi appris comment mettre en marche l’imprimante, comment scanner des documents et comment faire des photocopies. Après l’installation des ordinateurs, les communautés ont commencé à visiter la bibliothèque. Une dizaine de visiteurs ont été initié à comment allumer un ordinateur et la saisie sur Word. Enfin le 11, a eu lieu la cérémonie de présentation de la bibliothèque aux officiels venus pour l’inauguration du centre de santé et autres infrastructures réalisées par le M.S.N. avec l’appui financier de KAFO. Les invités ont eu droit à des explications sur le fonds documentaire, l’espace informatique, le rôle de la bibliothèque pour la communauté de Konkourona et celle des environs. Il faut noter, au passage, que le président de KAFO a apprécié positivement le professionnalisme et la maitrise de l’équipe de A.B.V.B.F. en matière de bibliothèques. Cette mission a été pour le président de A.B.V.B.F. l’occasion de, non seulement, faire la connaissance physique du président de KAFO, d’échanger avec lui, et d’organiser la bibliothèque mais aussi d’échanger sur l’aspect financier prévu dans les clauses de la convention de partenariat. À ce sujet, le président de KAFO a assuré que tout ce qui a été prévu sera fait dans le respect de l’art. Avant de retourner sur Ouaga, il a été convenu que le gérant de la bibliothèque vienne à Ouaga pour une semaine de formation sur les TIC suivi de visite des grandes librairies de la ville, de la médiathèque municipale et pour rencontrer le directeur du livre et celui du CENALAC.

Après les congés de 2 semaines du 19 août au 05 septembre 2022, mes activités ont repris avec mes sorties à la bibliothèque de Koho. Ainsi du 06 au 09 septembre 2022, la bibliothèque de Koho a repris son fonctionnement habituel. Cette période a observé la fréquentation d’une dizaine de lecteurs dont 1 abonné adulte. Des enfants viennent pour échanger leurs livres en retard depuis les vacances. Quatre livres en retard ont été reçus pendant cette période.
Le samedi 10 septembre j’ai effectué une sortie à la bibliothèque de Karaba pour assister la gérante dans ses activités de mise à jour des rapports des trois derniers mois. Ensuite nous avons lu un livre de conte « la brousse et la savane raconte ». Dans ce livre nous avons choisi les contes qui peuvent plaire aux enfants ; pour ensemble lire et trouve l’occasion pour le raconter aux enfants. Celui qui nous a le plus plu est : L’histoire d’un roi et son fils. Nous avons à la fin retenu comme leçon de morale, écoutons les conseils des personnes âgées. Le seul usager constaté à la bibliothèque est la fille de Hakahoun qui est venue voir sa maman et repartir. Nous avons ensuite fait une partie de jeu de scrabble avant la fermeture. Le 13 septembre a été l’ouverture de la bibliothèque de Koho.
Le 14 septembre ma sortie a été à la bibliothèque de Koumbia. Reçu par la gérante, elle me fait savoir que pour des raison personnelles elle doit demenager hors de la region. La gérante et moi avons échangé sur les stratégies de récupération des livres qui sont dans les mains des lecteurs avant son départ. Nous avons reçu 3 filles du secondaire venues échanger leurs livres. Nous les avons invitées à une partie de jeu de mots croisés. La gérante leurs aient ensuite prodigué des conseils pour le retour des livres.
Le 15 septembre, la gérante de Karaba et moi avions au préalable fait un programme pour rencontrer le président de la délégation spéciale de Houndé « PDS ». Nous avons pu effectuer le déplacement mais il s’est trouvé que le PDS était en déplacement à Bobo Dioulasso on nous a suggéré de revenir le mardi 20 septembre pour voir. Hakahoun et moi avons saisi l’occasion pour visiter le directeur provincial de la culture dont le bureau se trouvait non loin de la préfecture. Dans les causeries, nous avons expliqué la situation que traversent les gérants des bibliothèques en particulier celles de la commune de Houndé. Il a reçu ça amèrement .Il dit que les bibliothèques c’est la culture et c’est aussi son domaine. Qu’il va appuyer dès le retour du PDS pour que cette situation puisse être mise à jour le plus vite possible. Nous avons ensuite fait un tour à la mairie pour rencontrer le SG mais celui-ci était aussi en mission. Selon les dire du comptable, la mairie avait besoin d’une structure à qui il va verser les motivations ; chose déjà réglé ABVBF. Il ne reste qu’à rencontrer les premiers responsables afin de relancer le processus. Hakahoun et moi s’est encore donné un autre rendez-vous pour le mardi 20 septembre pour rencontrer le PDS. La journée du 16 septembre a été à la bibliothèque de Koho, j’ai reçu les élèves de la classe de CM2 de l’école de Koho. Ils disent avoir repris les cours pour bien préparer leur examen de CEP et d’entrée en sixième. La plus part des filles se sont intéressé à la lecture des livres CMH et les garçons aux jeux de lido et PUZZLES. Ainsi la bibliothèque retrouve ses potentiels lecteurs.
Le 17 septembre, mais activités étaient prévue à la bibliothèque de Dohoun. Le gérant Kahoun Sibiri m’appelé la veille pour faire savoir qu’il est en déplacement à Dossi pour un décès de ce fait je suis allé à la bibliothèque de Koho pour faire profiter au élèves de la classe de CM2..
Le 09 septembre 2022, à Konkourona, a eu lieu une rencontre entre le président de KAFO (Konkourona Alliance Foundation), le vice-président de M.S.N. (Mami Siara Na), le président de A.B.V.B.F. (Amis des Bibliothèques de Villages du Burkina Faso) et le gérant de la bibliothèque communautaire de Konkourona. Quatre (4) points étaient inscrits à l’ordre du jour de cette rencontre :
Le premier point a porté sur le gérant de la bibliothèque. Ainsi, il a été convenu que les capacités du gérant soient renforcées à travers des formations continues, des visites d’autres bibliothèques, le partage d’expériences entre gérant de bibliothèques, l’initiation à l’utilisation de l’outil informatique.
Le deuxième a concerné la promotion de la bibliothèque. À cet effet, il a également été convenu que A.B.V.B.F. fasse la promotion de la bibliothèque de Konkourona à travers la publication mensuelle des activités réalisées à la bibliothèque dans son bulletin d’information Échos des bibliothèques. En fait, il s’agit de faire en sorte que le village de Konkourona et sa bibliothèque soit visible sur le plan national et international. Pour cela, il faudra s’assurer de la distribution de Échos des bibliothèques aux personnes ressources et aux lecteurs afin que ceux-ci soient constamment informés des activités menées au sein de la bibliothèque. Le troisième point a porté sur le fonds documentaire de la bibliothèque. Il est ressorti que celui-ci doit être enrichi. À ce propos, des suggestions de types de documents à fournir ont été faites en tenant compte de la demande des lecteurs et de l’expérience d’autres bibliothèques : des romans et livres d’auteurs africains surtout, mais aussi des livres d’auteurs européens, américains… des bandes dessinées et des livres en anglais. Pour les livres en anglais, il a été souhaité de privilégier les livres adaptés aux besoins et au niveau des lecteurs. Enfin, le quatrième et dernier point de la rencontre a consisté à discuter les stratégies et moyens à mettre en œuvre pour motiver et encourager la communauté à fréquenter assidument la bibliothèque. Il a alors été proposé de définir un programme clair de la bibliothèque, d’organiser des camps de lecture, de mettre en place un club de lecture, d’organiser des soirées de conte… Il a également été proposé de mettre à la disposition des usagers des jeux de société comme le scrabble, le jeu de dame, le ludo, les cartes et bien d’autres.
On the 1st September 2022, I arrived at the library at 8am. I did my cleaning, shelved some books used by the patrons. 14 students from kunkua JHS came to study for their end of year examination (BECE). I shelved the books and closed at 2pm for the day. On Friday 2nd, I arrived at the library at 8am I did my cleaning. Water the trees on that same day mine managing director paid me a visit and we took some photos and played ludo game and I closed 2pm. On Monday 5th, I arrived at the library at 8am. I did the sweeping and shelved the books used by the patrons and water the trees and closed at 2pm. On the 6th of September, I came to the library at 8am, few patrons were around. They helped me to do the cleaning. We did group reading and closed at 2pm. On the 7th, I came to the library at 8am. I did cleaning and water the trees. Few patrons came especially those who are going to write the B.E.C.E examination and I closed at 2pm. On Thursday 8th of September, I arrived at the library at 8am. Few patrons came to the library for their personal studies. They helped me do the sweeping and arranged the tables and the chairs. We did group reading with the book ‘Crocodile Bread’ by Kathy Knowles. I closed at 2pm. On the 9th, I came to library at 8am. I did my cleaning arrange the books, the chair, the tables and watered the trees. We also played game like ludo and closed 2pm. On Monday 12th, I arrived at the library at 8am. I did my cleaning and water the trees few patrons came in to read on their own. We also did group reading and also, game like ludo were also played among the patrons and we closed 2am for the day. And on Tuesday 13th of September, I came to the at 8am. I did my usual cleaning, shelved the books used by the patrons and watered the trees, around 11am I went to the school and met the primary five (5) pupils from Gowrie-Kunkua primary school. We revised what we did before we went for holidays and at 12noon, I went back to the library and closed 2pm for the day. On 14th of September, I cames to the library at 8 am. I did my cleaning with the help of some of the patrons who came to read, I also shelved the books and watered the trees. We also did group reading with a book entitled ‘Emeka`s Gift’ an African storybook. On Thursday 15th of September 2022, I arrived at the library at 8am. I did my cleaning and water the trees. We played games (ludo and oware). I closed for the day at 2pm. And on Friday 16th of September, I came to library at 8am. I swept the library, watered the trees as usual and did other activities. we were play games and had a group reading and closed at 2pm.
Le 13 septembre 2022, le Président de A.B.V.B.F., Sanou Dounko a participé à la cérémonie de lancement des activités de la phase IV du projet « Beoog Biiga » initié par Catholic Relief Services (C.R.S.). Placée sous le parrainage du Ministre en charge de l’Éducation, cette cérémonie a vu la participation de la Représente résidente de C.R.S., de l’Ambassadrice des États-Unis d’Amériques au Burkina Faso, du Ministre de la Santé et de plusieurs autorités conviées à cet effet. Pour rappel, le projet « Beoog Biiga » vise, entre autres, à réduire la faim en milieu scolaire, à renforcer l’éducation et la qualité des apprentissages et à accroître l’adoption de bonnes pratiques de santé et de nutrition. Il faut noter que le volet bibliothèque n’est pas resté en marge des activités prévues par le projet. En effet, l’implantation, l’équipement et le soutien de bibliothèques participeront à l’amélioration de la qualité de l’éducation et au renforcement des capacités d’apprentissages des élèves et des communautés. Ainsi, à travers ces bibliothèques, les élèves bénéficiaires et les communautés pourront cultiver en eux le goût de la lecture, toute chose qui participera à l’amélioration de leur niveau d’instruction. Dans le discours lu par le Ministre de la santé, le Ministre en charge de l’Éducation nationale a rassuré les donateurs que des dispositions seront prises au niveau du gouvernement du Burkina Faso pour accompagner efficacement la mise en œuvre de cet important projet.
During the month July, we recorded an average number of patronage in both day and night time at Sumbrungu Community Library (SCL)-Ghana. This is because of the rain fall. Sometimes the rain falls all day long which makes it difficult for patrons to visit the library. Some students from Bolgatanga Technical University came to the library to study. And also Hon. Rex Asanga the Executive Director of CESRUD paid visit to SCL, he encourage patrons to make good use of the library. We were able to rehabilitate the library after the fire outbreak. We have fix the burnt doors, windows, and the electrical works. Due to splashed water during the fire outbreak, we had two faulty laptops repaired and one is still on repair. The SCL wish to express their gratitude to the FAVL/CESRUD Board for their tireless support to the community library.
Furthermore, the month of August was a very busy month because we started the vacation classes. Majority of the patrons were our Reader’s Club members. They are on vacation. So, we had a lot of activities with them in the library during this month, we had group reading, quiz, individual reading, creativity/colouring, movie show and outdoor games. In the first week of August, our goal was to help the younger ones who are unable to read to learn how to read. We did a lot of writing skills and pronunciation of words. We asked them to copy the words and take it home as an assignment so that they practice at home. We also read story books with older ones who came during the first week, some of the books included; ‘Jafta’s Mother,’ ‘Peter’s wish’, ‘Cat and Dog’ and ‘Grace and family’. We taught them also moral lessons from the story books read. We discussed things like ‘obeying parents’, ‘being serious with studying’, ‘caring for each other’, ‘how to get good role model’ and ‘wishing good for others’.
On the second week of August, our library users came in their number. In turns, we tell stories and asked them to also tell a story of their choice. The Coordinator of the Community Libraries (CCLs) encourages us not to employ librarian-centered learning when teaching, having library activities or doing any work with the patrons but it should be patron-centered learning. This method will give more opportunity for the patrons to develop themselves in learning. The patrons come regularly to the library when they are involved in the library’s activities. Also, we taught the patrons how to always keep the community library clean by following the rules of the library and all the procedures of keeping the books safe for the next user.
As mentioned earlier, we experienced frequent rain showers during the third week of August but this did not interrupt our activities. We asked the patrons to write an article on what they learnt in the library during the classes. During the fourth week, we recorded high patronage during the day and low number of patronage at night. Some students of Bolgatanga Technical University comes to the library at night to read. They said our library is a very good place to study at night because it is always silent at night, they can concentrate on whatever they are reading. On the other hand, we helped patrons to read perfectly before resuming back to school, so that their various school teachers will know that the library is a serious center for their pupils. At least more than half of our regular patrons can read perfectly, which is an achievement for us. I hope our efforts on working towards the mission of the library will be achieved by our hard work.
At Sherigu Community Library (ShCL), the turnout for the month of July was good. Most patrons came to the library both day and night time. The activities were carried out accordingly. We had group reading, practicing drawing, colouring and painting, individual reading, and storytelling as well as given assistance to some patrons who needed it for their assignments. Some of the books that were collectively read were “The Lucky one”, “My Green Book”, “My Yellow Book”, “Back to School”, “Hanatu, a seamstress learn to read”, and “Crocodile bread”. The most interesting activity for the month was the individual reading. The individual reading had been a modified strategy that has been set up by the librarian to test the understanding of patrons that do come to the library to read especially story books. In the course of the individual reading, patrons are asked to pick a book of their choice and read, after which the patron is then asked to narrate the book that he or she has read.
The CCLs and the library committee members were our visitors in the course of the month and of which their aim of visits were to discuss about how to improve the maintenance and the sustainability of the community library, formation of new library committee and also for monitoring and supervision respectively. To evaluate the month of August, we had a lot of activities at ShCL. In terms of attendance it was very encouraging for the first and second week because of the ongoing end of term examination. Within those weeks, students from the nearby communities used the library. They came to have personal study time and for their revisions towards their exams. The third and the last week attendance was not all that good due to the holidays. Most of them travelled for their vacation.
The activities that were carried out in the library were the group reading, Storytelling, individual reading, Spelling of words Competitions, video show and a clean-up exercise. On the first and second week, patrons read story books like; “The Lucky One”, “Otu goes to Sea”, “Why fish live in Water”, “Kente for a King”, “All about Ama”, “Tail of the Blue Bird”, “Blue shoes and Happiness”, Tears of the Giraffe”, “Teen Princess” to mention but a few. Some of the patrons also narrated beautiful stories they read. From the third and the lasts week, we took some of the pupils through extra classes on Maths and English Grammar. Also, we told stories and also watched educative videos for children, using the librarian phone due to lack of Television or a computer at ShCL library. We also had dictations after reading the story books. On the 27/08, we did general cleaning in the library. The ShCL opens all the time because of the passion Diana, the librarians has for her job and the patrons. She always used her free time to read story books. So from 8am the children will always come and closed at 2pm. And our adult users will also use the library till 5pm. We open the evening sessions at 7pm and closed at 9pm.
At Gowrie-Kunkua Community Library (GkCL) during the month of July, thus the first week, we did painting. This distracted reading in the library due to the painting of the new tables, the new shelves and the new doors. During the second week, the library had a lot of patronage due to the exams. Patrons have been coming from far places to the library to study for their end of term exams. What took place in the library during the month were completing of puzzles, which most of the kids like playing it, we also played ludo games, the sitting bird and kick the ball. In the month we were able to also read three [3] story books entitles ‘Secrets of the sorcerer’ by Bali Neble, ‘The flying Ostrich’ by Diana Bamford and ‘Amoako and the forest’ by Deborah Cowley. All these books we read were very interesting and enjoyable. We told the stories to patrons and friends. Apart from that the librarian also had a Classroom Group Reading (CGR) at the primary school. Since we introduce the CGR with the pupils, they master reading skillds now. The books that were used were ‘Kente for a king’ by Angela Christian and ‘Amoako and the forest’ by Deborah Cowley. We also sprayed the weeds around the library. We water the trees around the library every day, evening and morning.
Some parents and the library committee members also paid their usual visit. Also our CCLs also paid a number of visit to the library for monitoring and supervision especially during the painting weeks. The major problems that GkCL faces are the ceiling and the lighting system. We hope this issue is solved once and for all. We are always up and doing, preparing hard towards the group reading and hope for the best outcome.
During the month of August, several activities were carried out. On the 20th of August, the Library Reader’s Club (LRC) carried out a lot of activities. We had games like; ludo, oware and cards. Quiz competition were also organised among the groups, each group leader had three representatives. After the quiz the winners were awarded a prize of two exercise books and one pen each, the second position had one exercise book and one pen each and the third position had one exercise book each. Furthermore, we had group reading activities in the library, books shared patrons by the librarian. They read after him and after that dictation conducted for them, to test their level of understanding and awards are given them to motivate them to read more books. It is always interesting. We again planted more trees this month around the library. They are been taking care of by the librarian. He waters them every morning and evening. On 22th of August 2022, after our games and all others the health director came to supervise his works in the clinic nearby and decided to pay a visit to the library. He educated the patrons on some disease, how to protect oneself from contructing them. Such as Covid-19, HIV/AIDS and BP.
Namanya Memorial community Library Uganda is located in Nansana, Katooke A, Wakiso district. The decision to start the library was inspired by their late father to help vulnerable communities and give back to the community. Starting the library was a way of honouring his legacy. Serving between 10 to 20 children in a day, the library welcomes everyone from the community. Libraries are most active in holidays and weekends with regular and un regular users.
“Community libraries are very important especially in communities with very low literacy levels” Amy Ampaire, Community Librarian at Namanya Memorial Community Library. Having community libraries is one way we can reach out to different communities in order to impart the literacy skills to them to contribute to fighting illiteracy. At Namanya community library they have story books for children, fiction for both teenage and adults, curriculum. They are in the process of adding educative games to the collection.
The major challenge in community libraries today is the lack of space, lack of training in library management and financial challenges to acquire skilled man power and run the library consistently. Imagine a community library with skilled personnel to carry out outreach with books, read to children, ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with local leaders, teachers and parents to encourage more library usage – the illiteracy gaps would easily be covered and more numbers reached through different reading programs.

“I have been struggling to mention and read African story books and even at school”, that’s the words of a patron who is in class three. So, I took it my responsibility to help him to read! On the Monday 22nd August, I opened the library with joy as at around 8am. I first of all tidy up the library hall. We started our vacation classes. We had group reading on this day, the title of the Book we read was ‘Peter’s Wish’. I first read the book loudly after which I asked patrons to read it loud, I was amazed that our patrons read the story book very well. I asked them the lessons learnt from the story which most of them answered. After which I conducted dictation for them more than half of the number on Monday scored it. They were 30 patrons present. On the 23rd of August, 2022, we had a low number of patrons in attendance because of a rainfall in the morning; most parents did not allow their kids to come out. We had individual reading on this day I read ‘Peter Pan’ these story book is very interesting, it contains funny and educative information, I later asked patrons to spell a couple of word I had asked them to study at home the previous night at home. It is very difficult to motivate these kids to come without giving them something, so I bought toffees on this day just to encourage them. They were very happy and claimed that they will come with their friends. The 24th of August was a very busy day in the Sumbrungu Community library, I had to tidy up the library and shelve used books the previous day. I had to combine all patrons in attendance to teach them how to mention some words and use them to form sentences with them; I was amazed to read the sentences constructed by patrons. I help patrons with some pencils and pens to aid them write and learn with ease. On this day the numbers had increased, very encouraging number, the library was almost full of kids, it was very difficult to handle them but with the aid of our National Service Personnel, we had a good day.
On the 25th August, I grouped patrons into two groups namely ‘Group 1 and Group 2. I organized a Quiz between them to see what they learn when they come to the library. Each group consisted of four pupil, I asked question on General Knowledge, Mathematics, and English. The patrons cheered their brothers and sisters during the quiz. After which I asked them to play a couple of games in the library while waiting for the results. After the results were ready, group 2 won the quiz with 25 points and group 1 with 15 points, I encouraged them not to give up because next time will be big and rewards would be given as well. The 26th August, was a Friday, I opened the library a little late from the official opening time, because I had a problem with my motor bike when coming to the library on this day. Friday’s activities are Games, Video show, and socialisations. Patrons get the chance to make new friends from different schools and also have the chance to watch educative videos on the internet.
