A general meeting was held on January 31, 2025, at the Sumbrungu Community Library. The meeting was well-attended, and we had a productive discussion on various issues related to the community libraries. The most interesting part of the meeting was when we went through the manual for village librarians. The document is excellent, and it provides a comprehensive guide on how to prepare ourselves as librarians, our responsibilities, and the importance of the local committee. As we went through the manual, we realized that being a librarian is not just about managing books, but it involves a lot more. We learned about the importance of creating a welcoming environment, promoting literacy, and providing access to information. We also discussed our responsibilities as librarians, including cataloging and classification, circulation, and programming. One of the key takeaways from the manual was the importance of the local committee. The manual emphasizes that the local committee and librarians should meet regularly to discuss library matters. The committee is responsible for overseeing the library’s operations, making decisions about library programs and services, and ensuring that the library is meeting the needs of the community.
