November activities in the Ghana libraries supported by FAVL

The library in Bolga-Sherigu had a variety of activities in November 2023. Group reading, individual reading, storytelling, and quiz competitions took place. The library patrons, including tertiary and secondary students, used the facility for personal studies and borrowed storybooks. A reading competition was organized, improving the participants’ reading skills. Games such as oware, Ludo, puzzles, and scribbles were played.

Gowrie Kunkua Community Library experienced increased attendance, particularly from students preparing for teacher’s licensure and NOVDEC exams. Activities included group and individual reading, storytelling, tree-related activities, and various games. Two specific storybooks were mentioned: “A Triangle for Adaora” and “Maria’s Wish.” The library conducted exercises and dictations to enhance reading skills. Visitors, including parents and the coordinator, Mr. Amii Clement, monitored the library.

Sumbrungu Community Library had an eventful month with group reading, storytelling, individual reading, indoor games, and a “pick and act” activity. The first week saw a high number of patrons attending day and night sessions. The library addressed challenges patrons faced in attending and assisted in communication with parents. The second and third weeks involved educational activities like scrabble and helping with assignments. “Know your role model” sessions discussed career aspirations. The fourth week covered activities like learning about Ghanaian presidents.
